Google has just launched the security mode feature (Confidential Mode) For Gmail. It allows you to set expiry date for your email. If the time is over, the email will cancel itself. What is Gmail’s security mode?
When sending secret emails, Gmail will replace the letter content and attachment with one link. Only the theme and content containing the link are sent via SMTP. The message body of the messages will be stored at another Google server.
You can send messages and attachments to Gmail’s security mode. This helps protect sensitive information from illegal access. You can use the secret mode to set the expiry date for the message or recover the access at any time. Transition, copy, print and download modes on the received email will be disabled. So you are not afraid of sensitive information exposed to the outside.
Note: Although the secret mode helps prevent the recipient from sharing your email, it does not prevent the recipient from taking screenshots of email content or attachments.
Send email and attached file by security mode
On the computer
- On your computer, visit Gmail. Click Let.
- At the bottom right of the window, click the icon Lock and clock.
Set the expiry date and password. These settings affect both email content and any attachment.
- If you choose “Do not use the code via SMS”, the recipient uses the Gmail app will be able to open directly.
- If you choose “password via sms”, the recipient will receive a password with SMS. This feature is currently not supported in Vietnam
Press the button Save To complete the setup of Gmail’s security mode.
