All commands are created with an emphasis on ease of use.
You can start by creating a 3D model and then use that to automatically generate a drawing file, or you can just draw in 2D. Designing in 3D is generally more “natural”, in that it closely represents actual parts and assemblies. The 3D approach is often more intuitive than 2D sketching. Models created in 3D are easily converted into regular 2D documents. VariCAD provides tools to update the 2D after changing the 3D model.
3D model
VARICAD 2019 Full provides a library of basic 3D shapes (like boxes, cylinders, cones, etc.), which can be easily modified by editing their dimensions. Solids can also be created by profile rotation, extrusion or loft. More sophisticated tools include rotation blending between two profiles, stacking between circles and rectangles, or between different profiles, and helical surfacing.
Solids can be added or subtracted, thus forming a Boolean tree that represents real mechanical parts. Boolean operations have automatic pruning options (known as selective Boolean operations). Whenever you enter the dimensions of the solid, the distance in the constraint, or the dimension in the 2D profile used to create the volume, you can optionally use a parameter or even a mathematical expression containing parameters. Changing the parameter value, you can change the shape or position of the solid.
3D Assemblies and Groups
VariCAD also provides assembly support tools. If the association between a part and assembly is defined, any changes made to the part file are reflected in the assembly file and vice versa. Bonded copies of solids can also be identified (referred to as identical solids). In such a case, editing an object causes all of its identical copies to be updated. Solid groups can also be defined, making selection and visibility change simple, for multiple objects.
