Phone charging has always been one of the most common problems for any phone user. Whether based on experience or through research, most phone users assume that they charge their phones properly, but bad problems persist. From batteries that overheat to phones that won’t power on, many of these problems are battery-related in the long run.

5 safest ways to charge your phone

So how can we charge our phones properly? These are some of the things you can do to solve your phone charging problem.

Use the charger that came with your phone

Each phone comes with its own charger and accessories. If you’re an Android phone user, most will get the charger included with the purchase of a new device. What you need to do is just use that charger to charge the phone.

Companies provide you with chargers that are best suited for the electrical capacity needed to charge your phone, and you should use them. Ideally, use both the power adapter and the charging cord that came with the phone. Using a different phone charger or a generic charger can be dangerous to the battery and the phone in the long run. Also, note that if your phone uses fast charging, it’s best to use the charger that came in the box.

Don’t let the battery drop from 100% to 0%

I think at least once you’ve heard someone tell you to drain your phone’s battery, especially if it’s a new phone. These same people have told you that doing so is really good for your phone’s battery. However, the truth is that your batteries will discharge faster, even if they charge faster or at the same rate. Battery Universitya website run by battery company Cadex, calls the process “deep discharge”.

It’s better to keep the battery at a usable level before even thinking about plugging it in. If you allow your phone’s battery to be deeply discharged, there is a high chance that you will gradually reduce the life of the battery. I also recommend that the battery percentage should not be too low, specifically below 30%.

Do not charge the phone to 100%

There are people who also tell you to charge your phone until you hit the 100 percent mark. This will put extra stress on the battery, damaging it in the long run.

As much as possible, charge your battery to a safe percentage, 80 to 90% is fine. If you want to maximize battery life, you can always find ways to save your battery.

Do not charge your phone overnight

Charge your phone overnight is a very common practice. At the end of the day, most people will plug in their phone and let it reach 100% overnight.

But as mentioned earlier, charging to 100% might not be a good idea. Even if your battery reaches 100%, there’s still a lot of “trickle charge” happening while your charger is left plugged in overnight. These trickle charges keep your phone at 100 percent resulting in intermittent charging and will affect the battery in the long run.

Charge your phone when you can

Instead of charging the battery overnight, periodic charging will be the best way. Plug in the charger as often as you want. You should also charge your phone for short periods of time to keep your device running all day. While it may seem impractical, doing this shouldn’t do any harm to your phone’s battery.
