What is Samsung DeX?
First of all, the name “DeX” comes from “Desktop Experience”, a name that perfectly describes what this feature does. DeX transforms the look and feel of your Samsung phone or tablet into a Windows or Mac-like interface.
DeX software is built-in on many high-end Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets. You can connect your device to a larger screen, keyboard and mouse, then DeX Mode will work. The interface changes to better suit your needs.
The DeX Mode interface is very familiar to those who have used PC operating systems. There’s a “Desktop” for folders and apps, a taskbar at the bottom, and resizable floating windows. This theme is fully functional on Samsung phones through a graphical overlay.
Initially, DeX required the proprietary dock of Samsung. The keyboard, mouse and monitor are plugged into the dock, then put the phone in to make the system work. (In DeX Mode, the phone can also be used as a trackpad.)
Later on, Samsung introduced cables that made the dock unnecessary. DeX can now be launched by connecting a phone or tablet directly to a computer with a charging cable, and some Galaxy tablets can run DeX Mode right on itself, without connecting to any other device. whatever.
Why should you use DeX Mode?
Smartphones and tablets are not as good for multitasking needs as desktop computers. There’s no denying the convenience of a keyboard and mouse along with a generously sized screen. But in return you will lose mobility.
We tend to keep a lot of our personal information on our phones and tablets. The idea behind DeX is that you always have instant access to that content, whether you’re using a “desktop” or a mobile device.
If you don’t need a full desktop, Samsung phones with DeX Mode can let you merge devices. You will have a monitor at home and a mobile phone with all the personal information you need that can always go with you.
In the case of tablets that can use DeX Mode on the device itself, it’s simply a different user interface. The typical Android UI might be better suited for entertainment needs, but DeX Mode will make the phone look like a PC.
Samsung devices that support Dex Mode
DeX is available on most modern Samsung Galaxy phones, along with some Galaxy Tab tablets. Samsung has launched DeX on the Galaxy S8 series for phones and the Galaxy Tab S4 for tablets. Any newer high-end Samsung Galaxy device will have DeX.
Samsung DeX may not have the same general appeal, but for those who want more from a phone or tablet, it’s something to behold. You don’t have to choose between using a computer or a mobile device. DeX is part of such a mobile future.
