You can now customize your own Chrome browser theme right from the New Tab page.

To get started, click the . button “Customize” in the lower-right corner of the Chrome New Tab page.
You’ll see options to choose colors and themes, backgrounds, and browser shortcut options here.
To choose your favorite color click on Color and theme, and click one of the color combinations. You don’t have to choose from the available colors, you can click the eyedropper icon in the top left corner of the list of colors to get a color picker. You can choose any color you like. Chrome will automatically choose a similar, lighter color to match the exact color you choose.
To choose a background image for the New Tab page, click on “Background” in the left pane and select an image. You can select a category and an individual image or enable Mode “Refresh daily” to get new background images every day.
You can also choose “Upload From Device” and choose any wallpaper you like on your computer. If you choose to have no background, Chrome will pick a background color from your theme.
Finally, you choose how to display the shortcut to Web sites located below the search box. You can customize the shortcuts to your personal liking or display them according to the most visited Web sites. If you turn on ‘Hide shortcuts’ it will turn off all shortcuts, now the interface will be clearer.
There is currently no way to turn off the search box in the New Tab. This feature was previously available in the old version but was removed in Chrome 77.
