When buying a device, everyone probably wants it to always work quickly and smoothly. In general, this part belongs to the machine configuration.

The configuration parameters including chip, card, RAM, Hard drive are all announced by the manufacturers on the company’s website or the seller’s website. It’s easy to see this, the important thing is how to choose to suit your needs.

Experience in buying Laptops for Students and Office Workers

WHAT CONFIGURATION IS ENOUGH?

If you are a student majoring in accounting, economics, society… you should read the article Experience in buying laptops for students majoring in accounting, economics, and society…. to choose the correct configuration.

If you simply buy a laptop for students to study and work with software applications such as word, excel, powerpoint or other office applications and software, you do not need a very high configuration:

– With CPU:

  • Just from Intel i3/i5 or Ryzen 3/ Ryzen 5 3.4 generation is very good. This also depends on your budget. With a budget of about 9 million or more, I can choose a new machine with Intel i3/i5 chip, mainly 8th and 10th generation.
  • However, with a budget lower than about 5 million, you must choose old machines with i3, i5 chip generations 5,6,7. As long as it’s not too old, everything is fine.

– RAM: 4GB is the minimum. However, most of you have the habit of opening many work tabs at the same time. With many Chrome tabs, you should invest 8GB to avoid lag, and surfing the web also consumes quite a bit of RAM. In case you don’t have enough money, remember to prioritize choosing a device that can be upgraded in case you need to use it later.

– Hard drive: in addition to storing data, it also determines the speed of reading and writing data of the machine, basically, starting the computer, software, copying data quickly or slowly depends on it. The most popular types today are two types of hard drives: HDD and SSD. For smooth speed, you should prioritize choosing an SSD that only needs 120GB. If you need to store large data and images, you can use SSD and HDD in parallel, or the machine already has HDD but can be upgraded.

– About cards: If you don’t have a heavy game or graphics, you don’t need to worry too much about the card, guys, the card is already on the device and just use it. Who has a need…? then see below…

For those who buy a laptop for students to play more games or do graphic design, you need to pay more attention to the configuration.

– With CPU:

  • If using an Intel chip: you choose a chip from i5 with U or G tail, and have a lightweight discrete card included like MX230, MX330, etc. In case you don’t have a discrete card, you should only choose the latest Intel gen 11 chip with G7 tail with the included Iris Xe card.
  • If using an AMD chip: because the 3.4 generation Ryzen chip with integrated Vega card has quite good graphics processing power, with machines using this chip you will not need an additional separate card.

(For example: Lenovo ideapad 3 Ryzen 3 chip + Vega 3 card can already play LOL max settings with 70-73 fps)

– RAM: If you are involved in heavy games or graphics, the RAM must be at least 8GB to be able to support you well in the process of playing games or doing PS and AI.

HOW TO CHOOSE A MACHINE SCREEN?

This is also an equally important factor when you choose to buy a laptop for students or office workers, but many people who buy a computer do not pay attention. The laptop screen needs to be bright enough, sharp enough and display clearly.

  • Screen brightness is measured in Nit. The higher this parameter, the clearer the display and the better it can limit glare and shadows. Normally the screen will have a brightness of 200 -300nit and higher in high-end laptops.
  • The higher the resolution, the more detailed the image displayed. It’s best to invest in a device with Full HD resolution or higher. Working and watching entertainment movies are also much more enjoyable.
  • If you buy a device with additional needs to work with color (PS, AI, Pr…) or simply have the money to like a better screen, you should pay more attention to color standard. Color standard should be around 72%NTSC or 100%sRGB.
  • Choose size depending on your needs. If you often have to work and study with data and spreadsheets, you should choose a large screen of at least 14 inches, the most optimal is 15 inches to have a number pad. If you often travel, choose a small screen of about 12 or 13 inches for ease of movement and easy checking of work.

Of course, display quality also depends on many other factors such as screen technology, panel, size, etc. so when buying a device, try checking the screen first, feel that the screen is not yellow or green, it is obviously fine.

ABOUT MACHINE DESIGN

Whether the device design is good or bad is up to each person’s taste, so I won’t discuss this, but if you care about durability, you should choose a device made from metal or carbon or magnesium alloy. That’s the theory, but where do you get a cheap machine with a metal shell? Many machines made from hard plastic are also quite sturdy, so you can also choose.

Before deciding to buy, it’s best to go to the store and try holding the device, gently pressing it, opening the hinge, typing on the keys, etc. to see if it’s sturdy, has a tight grip or is rickety, and you’ll know right away.

CHOOSE A KEYBOARD SUITABLE FOR YOUR NEEDS

If you work a lot with data or excel, you should choose a machine with an additional numeric keypad for convenient data entry. As for typing pleasure, bounce, soft keys, etc., you can choose Lenovo’s thinkpad. But typing is familiar, so you should consider this criterion.
