What is Cloudflare DDoS blocking?
Cloudflare just informed customers to use Free package can receive real-time alerts about HTTP DDoS attacks that have been automatically detected and mitigated by Cloudflare. The original real-time DDoS alert was announced over a year ago but has been made available to customers using the Pro plan and above. This announcement extends the DDoS alert feature to users of the Free plan.
Securing the Server against DDoS attacks requires two main capabilities:
- Bandwidth Consumption
- Ability to distinguish between real user requests and attack requests.
To protect against DDoS attacks, Cloudflare first routes your traffic to its data center network. Cloudflare’s server network spans over 250 cities in more than 100 countries around the world with a capacity of more than 100 Tbps – 5.10 times larger than the largest attack the world has recorded. Cloudflare’s bandwidth is enough to absorb both user traffic and attack traffic.
Second, when your traffic reaches Cloudflare’s data centers it goes through state-of-the-art analytics mechanisms that continuously scan for DDoS attacks. When an attack is detected, the analysis engine will know which is the request from the real user, which is the request from the attack, thereby preserving the user’s requests.
