Internet safety is more important than ever. People lock their doors and valuables – even take steps to protect themselves – What about phones, laptops, PCs when online? Devices that contain personal information such as bank accounts, email passwords, chats, videos, etc. are used every day, but few people care if the data is leaked or stolen. Therefore, you must be equipped with knowledge to protect yourself from Internet dangers.

Cybersecurity basics: Essential tools

Tips to protect yourself from Internet dangers

The term “necessary” implies that something is fundamentally important to have. The same is true for the basic factor about network security. There are so many security tools available out there that it can be overwhelming – especially since many of the tools cater to businesses rather than individuals.

But there are a lot of necessary security elements suitable for people who daily use devices such as smart phones, laptops, desktop computers, etc.

Here are some tips to protect yourself from Internet dangers:

Anti-malware program

By now, most people know that to install anti virus program on your device. But what many people don’t realize is that you need an extra anti-malware program, because some antivirus software doesn’t have full features to protect you like adware blocking, firewall, etc. Some software you should install more like Adwcleaner, Unhackme…. will help avoid dangers from the Internet.

VPN

Virtual Private Networks – VPNs are very popular these days. VPNg protects your device from many dangers and invasions of privacy by encrypting packets and routing it through a 3rd VPN server. Your IP will therefore be anonymized, instead of your machine’s IP. VPN master. Everyone should use Paid VPN instead of free VPN because they are more reliable. VPNs come with a number of security benefits, including increased anonymity online and protection from attacks. man-in-the-middle and SSL.

Password Manager

People have a lot of work accounts like email, forum accounts, social media accounts… so you will often use the same password. ButNever use a password again or write them down. Use a password manager instead. Some well-known password management software such as: 1Password, LastPass, KeePass, Dashlane, RoboForm… will help you to generate secure Passwords and store them.

Browsers like Chrome and Safari suggest saving password of everyone. However, they are also not recommended. There are several ways that Hackers can exploit the browser to view saved passwords.

Email encryption software

People who use email for work (or share any other sensitive information via email) need email encryption. Unlike a VPN, this tool only encrypts one specific thing – texts and attachments sent in emails. It just adds another layer of protection to ensure that criminals cannot steal any confidential information. I usually use Proton Mail because it has built-in encryption and no need to install additional software.

Network security habits you should have

Change the password

It is not necessary to change passwords often. However, the passwords need to be changed, if they are used for multiple accounts or your account belongs to the company that has been leaked.

Hackers can use stolen login information through hacked websites, and use that information to access your other accounts, if using the same user/password.

But also don’t forget the Device and Router Password! Many pieces of hardware around the house – like security cameras and Modems/Routers – come with default passwords that are easy to guess that will expose you to dangers from the Internet.

Keep devices and software up to date

Programmers must regularly release device/software updates to protect against new security threats. These updates typically protect against zero-day exploits, other exploited vulnerabilities, and new malware attacks. So it is safest to install updates as soon as they are available. Today, most devices allow automatic updates.

Always set a password for the device

Computers, smartphones, tablets, and even some smart devices all have a password or pin lock feature. If your device is stolen, it’s worse when the thief has access to everything stored on the device. If the bank account is still logged in, it is dangerous.

Change account security settings

Online accounts, like on social networks, have privacy settings that can be adjusted to increase privacy. This is also done with browsers and operating systems like Windows. Go through the Settings menu and change the settings to limit who can see or share personal information. AnonyViet has had a series of articles about Windows privacy, Social Network... you should refer.

Do not click on suspicious links

Phishing emails and messages are getting more and more real. They can take many forms, but they generally still try to get people to click on a link or attachment. They will take them to a fake website to steal login information or download malware that puts you at risk from the Internet.

Always be suspicious of any unsavory email, especially if it contains links to other websites. This is true whether the email is from a business, a stranger, or a friend.

Conclusion

This is by no means a complete guide to online safety, but it covers the basics needed to stay safe on the internet from dangers from the Internet. Criminals are always on the lookout for you, so stay safe on the internet today.
