Lesson 186: Calculate the average test score in Excel

To calculate the average test score (with coefficients like 2, 3, …) in Excelyou can simply use the SUMPRODUCT and SUM functions.

Calculate average test scores in Excel

1. First, the AVERAGE function below calculates the average of the three points.

Let’s say “The test will double the score and the final exam by a factor of 3”.

2. The score coefficient will be as follows.

GPA = (20 + 40 + 40 + 90 + 90 + 90) / 6 = 370 / 6 = 61.67.

3. We can use the SUMPRODUCT function in Excel to calculate the numerator (370).

Note: the SUMPRODUCT function performs the calculation: (20 * 1) + (40 * 2) + (90 * 3) = 370.

4. We can use the SUM function in Excel to calculate the denominator (6).

5. Use the functions in step 3 and step 4 to calculate the mean.
