According to the official announcement from MicrosoftJanuary 23, 2003 Microsoft started rolling out an update to Notepad (version 11.2212.33.0 ) for Windows 11 for Windows Insiders. With Windows 11’s Notepad tabs, you’ll be able to create, manage, and organize multiple files in a single Notepad window.
Similar to how tabs work in File Explorer and the Microsoft Edge browser, Notepad has tabs. Now you can open multiple tabs in Notepad, no need to open multiple Notepad windows like before to open multiple txt files. You can also easily switch between tabs with just one click.

Install Tabs for Notepad on Windows 11
If you are using the stable version and do not want to use the Windows 11 version for Windows Insiders, you can still install Tab for Windows 11 by the following way:
Search Notepad in Start and then right click on it to uninstall

If you are using Notepad++ as the default text editor, the feature to add multiple tabs is already available. In Notepad++, you can also rename a tab and apply a color to it, which is very useful.
