How to delete hidden viruses in USB with CMD on Windows 10

Computer viruses can come from everywhere – even mobile storage devices. When the USB is infected with the virus will seek to spread on your computer. It will be activated by the integrated Windows function called Autorun. Fortunately, there is a way to disable this feature. What is Autorun?

To find out to delete the Virus Virus (Virus Shortcut), you need to know what Autorun does and why it does so.

Windows launched a file with a name Autorun.inf When external devices (USB, memory card, CD, DVD, SD card) are plugged into the computer. Features like Autorun are designed to improve PC experience.

In most cases, Windows will help people who are not familiar with computers quickly open storage devices every time they attach to the computer, instead of having to click manually many times to open data.

For example, the utility of Autorun is the CD when connected to the computer. Each CD can have Autorun.inf file to perform music to open music immediately for you, without any extra operation.

How does the Virus hide the shortcut (Virus Shortcut) work?

Unfortunately, the Autorun feature was abused to spread the virus. Autorun feature can open at the same time multiple files in USB. A virus from USB can be enforced in the Autorun.inf file so that both will launch at the same time. This means basically automatically activating the virus in USB by Autorun feature.

What the virus works will depend on what it is programmed. Some are known as what is called keylogger to your system. This will allow hackers to track your key combination to steal personal information such as passwords and bank information. In Vietnam, most of the USB virus will hide the file, creating a fake virus of the folder. When opened in the virus, other USB plugged into the infected machine will be hidden, or encoding the existing file. The removal of hidden viruses is also quite simple.

Turn off autorun feature

Although Autorun is a great feature, turning off this feature can be the best way to prevent Autorun.inf files from infecting and hiding files in your USB.

Here are the steps you should follow to turn off the Windows Autorun to delete the hidden virus file:

Access Settings (Windows + I)> Devices> Autoplay.

SettingsDisable autorun By converting to position Off.

Note: You can also use drop -down menu To choose the default action when you attach a device to the computer

Delete autorun.inf file

If you suspect that your USB has a virus, you need to delete the file Autorun.inf To prevent the virus activated.

Delete the virus hidden files by using CMD

Here's how to delete the autorun.inf file by running CMD, also known as the command prompt:

Open Tremble and type CMD To open the command prompt.

Open CMD

Type the character of the USB drive (for example: “F:” or “G:“No quotes), press Enter

Squeeze ATTRIBUTE -H -R -S AUTORUN.INF and click Enter

Use CMD to show hidden files

Squeeze DEL AUTORUN.INFand click Enter

Delete with Windows Explorer

Here's how to delete the file Autorun.inf equal Windows Explorer:

Open Windows Explorer (Windows + E).

Open the USB drive found on the left control panel. This action will show you the content of the USB.

Select autorun.inf from the list and press Erase. If not, click the view menu, check on Hidden Items to display hidden files.

Show hidden files in Windows 10 to delete hidden viruses

Deleting Autorun.inf file through one of the two methods will help protect your computer from USB virus. However, you should use virus software To scan the USB drive before opening the file. This is the most necessary measure to remove the hidden virus.
