How to create a direct file download link on Google Drive

This uses the ID of the shared file to create a direct download link. You can use this method on all your devices, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad, and Android.

I will use the web browser on the computer as an example.

Start by opening a web browser on your computer and go to the page Google Drive. On the website, find the file for which you want to generate the direct download link.

Right click on your file and select “Share“.

Windows “Share with People and Groups” will open. If you only want selected people to be able to download your file, add their email. Or, to allow anyone on the network to download your file, click the “Change to Anyone with the Link“. I will use the second method.

At the top of the “Share with People and Groups” window, from the “Share with People and Groups” sectionGet Links“, press “Copy Link“. This will copy the file association.
The link you just copied will look like the image below. From this link, copy the text between d/ and /view. This is the ID of the Google Drive file.

In the link below, replace FILEID with the ID above.
