In order to get such a low price, Xiaomi has cut a lot of costs and tried to make a profit in other areas such as placing ads (in MIUI applications), motivating users to use applications. MIUI is pre-installed (Bloatware), and more. If you are someone who is annoyed by bloatware, here is how to remove bloatware from Xiaomi phones.
What is Bloatware on Xiaomi phones?
The term ‘Bloatware’ means applications that come pre-installed on the device, which take up a lot of space and are generally not useful to the user. For example: Opera, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon, etc.
Unless you root your phone, you cannot uninstall or disable bloatware. But in this article, I have compiled some ways that you can remove Bloatware without root.
How to uninstall/disable MIUI apps in Xiaomi phones without root
1. MIUI Hidden Settings
MIUI Hidden Settings allows you to access all hidden settings in one app. For example, you can go to the apps section to find and disable apps that you don’t need.
Although the functionality of the application is limited and you cannot uninstall all the applications. But it does give you a list of all the apps in one place to make it easy to disable or uninstall them.
- Open the app MIUI Hidden Settings.
- Click Manage Applications.
- Scroll and tap any app you want to remove from your device.
- Tap the āDisableā or āUninstallā option.
- Then tap the āDisable appā button in the pop-up window.
This way you can uninstall some MIUI bloatware.
2. ADB and Fastboot
Removing bloatware with ADB and Fastboot is a common method and works quite well with any Android device.
To do this, you need to follow the steps exactly or know in advance about ADB and Fastboot. I recommend you try the first way.
To uninstall MIUI apps from Xiaomi phones or bloatware from any Android device, here’s what you need to do.
Prerequisites:
- Make sure that ADB and Fastboot are installed on your PC.
- Make sure that USB Debugging is enabled.
- Load App Inspector to find out the application’s package name.
Here’s how to remove bloatware with the ADB command:
- Connect your Xiaomi device to your PC with a USB cable
- Open Command Prompt and type: āadb devicesā to check if the device is connected
- Enter the command: āadb shellā
- Find the package name of the system application using App Inspector. It usually starts with ācom. ā¦ā
- Enter the following command: āpm uninstall āk āuserā
- For example, if I wanted to delete Facebook, the command would look like this:
pm uninstall -k --user com.facebook.katana
Through this method, you can easily remove bloatware from MIUI devices without rooting. You can use this method to remove Get apps from Xiaomi devices.
If you experience any errors or system problems, you can simply reset your phone and the Xiaomi device will be back to normal. Keep in mind that uninstalling some apps like Mi Security will break your phone’s operating system. Therefore, I strongly recommend learning about what apps you can uninstall before proceeding.
3. Use Universal Android Debloater
Universal Android Debloater is an open source application that recognizes your device via ADB, pulls all installed packages and allows you to uninstall them. This is one of the easiest ways to remove bloatware on your Xiaomi device.
1. Access official website of UAD and download the tool for your operating system.
2. Once the download is complete, double-click the file to run it.
3. Install ADB and Fastboot and connect your device to the computer.
4. Unlock Developer options and enable USB debugging on your phone.
5. Click the refresh button in the tool. Wait for it to recognize your device and upload all the uninstallable packages.
6. Finally, uninstall them by clicking the uninstall button. Again, be mindful of what you’re uninstalling because uninstalling the wrong app can damage your phone.
Turn off MIUI ads on Xioami phones
Not only bloatware, you can also remove some ads displayed on MIUI software. Go to Settings > Aditional Settings > Authorization & Revocation.
Here you need to revoke authorization for MIUI System Ads (MSA) to collect data for advertising. So tap the toggle next to MSA and tap Revoke.
Is it safe to delete Xiaomi Bloatware?
First, Xiaomi itself recommends against doing so, as it is not safe at all. But they are the main culprits that annoy users, so we can ignore this warning.
In addition, the removal of Xiaomi bloatware can also be achieved by rooting the phone. In fact, this is a complicated method unless you know what you’re doing. A failed rooting procedure can damage your phone.
There are also cases where many users consider anything that isn’t from Google to be bloatware, regardless of the fact that those apps are good or bad. Sometimes these apps provide a better experience than Google apps.
