Phishing Detection Feature on Google Chrome
Google has released a new feature to help you avoid Phishing that sends the URLs of less popular websites to Google. The Google Chrome browser has a technology called Safe Browsing that checks each URL visited against a list of phishing websites that Google has collected. For privacy reasons, this check is performed without the user's computer being open. The list is updated every 30 minutes.
Every day, “Safe Browsing” discovers thousands of new unsafe websites and adds them to its blacklist. The list is updated approximately every 30 minutes. Chrome checks the URL of every website you visit or file you download against this list. If you visit a new URL, Chrome checks the first 32-bit SHA-256 hash of the URL and compares it to Google’s list.
This measure can check visited URLs in real time to detect Phishing. When a Chrome user visits a website, the browser checks to see if the address is on the Safe Websites list, which is a list of thousands of websites that Google has confirmed are safe. If the website you visit is not on Google's safe list, Chrome will send the address to Google and warn the user that it is a Phishing site.
You need to manually enable Phishing detection option on Google Chrome.
