Enable Dark Mode on Instagram in Android
On Android, if you have dark mode enabled system-wide, then Instagram will automatically use dark mode. However, if you haven’t enabled that option, then you can use Instagram to enable dark mode.
First, run the Instagram app on your Android phone. In the bottom bar of the app, tap your profile picture.
On your profile page, in the top right corner, tap the three horizontal lines.
You will see a pop-up menu from the bottom of the screen. In this menu, tap on “Settings”.
On the “Settings” page, tap “Theme”.
To switch Instagram to Dark Mode, tap the “Dark” option.
And immediately, the Instagram app will turn dark.
To turn Instagram back to white, just follow the same steps as above, but instead of choosing “Dark” choose “Light”.
Turn on Dark Mode on Instagram in iPhone
Unlike the Android version, the iPhone Instagram app doesn’t have a dark mode toggle. Instead, the app relies on the phone’s default mode to decide.
This means that if you have enabled system-wide dark mode on your iPhone, Instagram will also enable dark mode.
Turn on Dark Mode on Instagram on the web
Instagram’s website does not provide a toggle for dark mode, but you can use another solution to switch the website to dark mode.
In a web browser on your Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook computer, copy and paste the following URL into your address bar and press Enter. This is the official Instagram website with a parameter at the bottom indicating that the site uses dark mode.
https://www.instagram.com/?theme=dark
Once the website loads, you’ll see Instagram using dark mode.
Note: if you reload the website, you will lose dark mode. The link above only temporarily activates dark mode, but at least you have a dark mode to use.
Alternatively, you can also turn off comments on instagram here.
