“Hidden” garbage or Cache is the data in the previous session of applications and programs that the operating system saves to help load data in later sessions faster. It will “bulge” over time if you leave it alone and consume memory space and slow down the processing. Therefore, to reclaim “space” for your hard drive and speed up your computer, you can refer to the “cleaning” steps below.
Applies to all versions of windows (xp/7/8/10)
1- Clear the Windows Update Cache
Normally, Windows will keep update files downloaded from Windows Update so that users spend less time reloading updates when the process is interrupted. However, this feature is annoying for users when it takes up too much storage space.
First, proceed to disable Windows Update by entering the following command in Command Promptthen press Enter to execute: net stop wuauserv
Next, open the folder under the path C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download then delete all files in Download.
Finally, enter the following command Command Prompt to reactivate Windows Update: net start wuauserv
2- Clear the cache of cache
Windows usually has a system folder dedicated to storing temporary files. These temporary files are usually created by actions using certain software. And they are usually deleted after the session ends. However, not all software “cleans up” its own cache. Therefore, over time these data are more and more and occupy more space.
To do this, do the following: Computerright click on the drive OLD then choose Properties. Then press Disk Cleanup.
When the dialog box Disk Cleanup open, check the box Temporary Internet Filesthen press OK
3- Clear Thumbnail Cache
Windows has a nice feature that shows preview images of video files MP4 with the format defined as .PNG. And of course these images are created from File Explorer and they are saved for faster viewing later.
To delete Thumbnail Cache it’s still in the dialog box Disk Cleanupcheck boxThumbnails then press OK
4- Clear System Restore’s Cache
It can be said that System Restore is one of the very useful features in Windows. It is a great solution for quickly restoring the system to a previous steady state. However, the only downside to this feature is that it uses up a lot of storage space. Therefore, if you sometimes feel unnecessary, you should delete System Restore’s restore points to free up storage space.
Please enter Control Panel > System and Security > System. At interfaceSystempress System protection
Dialog box System Protection appears, tap the option Configure and then press Delete done.
5- Clear the web browser’s cache
Similar to other software, web browsers also store cached data during browsing sessions so that subsequent visits can load pages faster. And if it is said that the agent produces the most cache, the web browser is the number 1 cause today.
With Chrome: Settings > Show advanced settings… > Clear browsing data> tick the option Cached Images and Files and choose The beginning of time. Finally, press Clear browsing data.
With Firefox: Access the menu Tools > Custom > Advanced and click on the tab Network. Next, in the Web content has been cachedpress Clear now.
6- Clear DNS cache
Most Internet service providers run their own DNS servers, however, information can also be retrieved from the cache of other DNS servers. The router can also act as a DNS server, which stores information from the Internet service provider’s DNS servers. Your computer also has a local DNS cache, so it can quickly refer to the lookup rather than doing it on another DNS server.
However, when the router’s DNS data changes, the previous cached data becomes obsolete and often causes web page loading problems. Therefore, “cleaning” it is also a good thing to do.
