How to split 2 screens or multiple screens on Windows 10
Step 1: Connect 2 monitors to the Video Port
To set up a second monitor, first find the Video port on your computer. Desktop computers usually come with a VGA port on the back of the case. On the other hand, a laptop video port is usually located on the sides.
You now need a VGA connector/HDMI/DVI cable or a Display Port cable. If your PC and the second monitor have incompatible video ports, you can use a video cable adapter like VGA-to-HDMI or Apple Display Adapter (for MacBook).
It is important that your video card (Video Card) has 2 connection ports. 1 port is for monitor 1, 1 port is for display 2. In case your video card has only 1 port, you need to buy an additional connection splitter.
Step 2: Choose display mode
Thankfully, Windows 10 already comes with a bunch of settings for using 2 monitors. Once you’ve connected the monitor, the next step is change some display settings.
First of all, you need to decide what kind of display you want to see on the second monitor. Windows 10 has four display settings that can be accessed by pressing [Windown + P] on the keyboard. Alternatively, you can press [fn + F8] on laptop.
Types of Display Modes in Windows 10 for Dual Monitor Settings
- PC Screen Only – Turn off the second screen
- Second Screen Only – Turn off the main screen
- Duplicate – The main screen and the 2nd screen display the same
- Extend – Extend the display for the 2nd monitor.
Display mode “ExtendThis is what I want to talk about in this post. Windows 10 combines both displays to provide the maximum resolution for the secondary monitor. Your workspace will be twice as wide, nThe resolution is still guaranteed to be the best.
For example: If your primary monitor has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and the secondary monitor has a resolution of 2560 x 1140, when using “Extend”, you will get 4480 x 1440 resolution on the new monitor.
It would be ideal if both monitors have the same resolution, to avoid any kind of content being obscured by not having the same resolution.
3. Change display settings when using multiple monitors on Windows 10
Once you’ve decided what kind of display to display, the next step is to change the display settings for the secondary monitor (Only when needed).
To set up the display on the second monitor, go to the Change Display Settings function in Windows’ Settings. If you have 2 monitors then click on “2“. Or click on Detect Let Windows search the screen for you.
Now, all changes to Windows 10 display settings will be applied on the second monitor. If you are using the latest Windows 10 ver 1809, you can make the following changes:
Increase text size, resolution and display orientation
If you have a large image, then increase the text size 125% for easy viewing, if you feel 100% of the text display is too small. You can edit resolution to fit the screen in item Resolution.
Finally, there’s the “Orientation” setting, where you can choose what kind of orientation you want to see on the second monitor. “Landscape”, “Portrait”, “Landscape (flipped)”, “Portrait (flipped)” are the four types of orientation you will see in the settings. At the bottom of the page, you again have the option to toggle the display mode.
Hide the Taskbar on the 2nd monitor
To hide the Taskbar on the second monitor, type “Taskbar Settings” in Windows Search. Switch to column “Multiple Displays”> Turn off the settings”Show Taskbar on all displays“.
How to project the computer screen on the TV
The TV screen works like a computer screen. The only difference is that the TV is bigger and shouldn’t sit close to it. Most TVs have an HDMI jack, you only need to connect 2 ends HDMI cable between computer and TV. The setup of the steps is the same as in the instructions above.
