<p>But before we start, I want to inform you that you cannot directly upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 from Ubuntu 16.04, 18.10 and 19.04.  You can only use Ubuntu 18.04 or Ubuntu 19.10 to upgrade. <img post-id="8217" fifu-featured="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-19243 size-full" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/13-1.png" alt="How to upgrade Ubuntu 18.04 or 19.10 to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS" title="How to upgrade Ubuntu 18.04 or 19.10 to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS" width="480" height="275" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/13-1.png 480w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/13-1-300x172.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" title="How to upgrade Ubuntu 18.04 or 19.10 to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 15"/></p>
<p>One more thing, this article focuses on upgrading Ubuntu using GUI (user interface). However, if you prefer to use the terminal or you are an SA (system administrator), you can also upgrade Ubuntu using the command line.</p>
<h2 id="ftoc-phien-ban-ubuntu-20-04-co-gi" class="ftwp-heading">What does Ubuntu 20.04 have?</h2>
<p>Ubuntu 20.04 has many notable changes in system, user interface and accompanying software.</p>
<p>This version used the 5.4 kernel. This will help improve hardware performance. Ubuntu developers have also enabled support for WireGuard (secure VPN technology) and built-in Livepatch (for kernel updates without rebooting).</p>
<p>Kernel and initramfs compression algorithm changed to lz4 to deliver faster boot times.</p>
<p>And that includes other UI changes like new login screen, new lock screen, new wallpaper, the color of folder icons has also changed.</p>
<p>One feature that Ubuntu users have been waiting a long time to experience is Dark mode.</p>
<p>Ubuntu&#8217;s software store is now a Snap-based version. This doesn&#8217;t affect everything as it&#8217;s still a basic GNOME-based tool, but packaged in Snap format.</p>
<p>AnonyViet has a tutorial on how to <a target="_blank" href="https://en.anonyviet.com/next-link?url=https%3A%2F%2Fanonyviet.com%2Fhuong-dan-cai-song-song-ubuntu-voi-windows-10-moi-nhat%2F" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="local-link">parallel installation of Windows 10 with Ubuntu 20.04</a>if you like to experience these two famous operating systems at the same time, please follow.</p>

However, since the stable version of Ubuntu 20.04 will be released on April 23, you cannot install a newer version at the moment.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-19250 size-full" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20.jpg" alt="Upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS from an old version" width="900" height="516" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20.jpg 900w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20-300x172.jpg 300w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20-768x440.jpg 768w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20-750x430.jpg 750w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" title="How to upgrade Ubuntu 18.04 or 19.10 to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 22"/></p>
<p>Also, even after the stable version is released, you may not get the option to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04. You have to wait 1 week or so. Therefore, you can wait for the notification or upgrade your system to the beta version of Ubuntu 20.04 by using the following command:</p>

<h2 id="ftoc-tai-sao-lai-la-focal-fossa" class="ftwp-heading">Why Focal Fossa?</h2>
<p>Come to the appointment again, when the warm sunshine brings the scent of spring wind blowing on all the roads and alleys. It&#8217;s time for Ubuntu to release a new version. This time it&#8217;s Ubuntu version 20.04, codenamed Focal Fossa after a breed of cat from Madagascar (he probably likes cats). This is a long-term support (LTS) release, which means it will be supported with software patches and security fixes for the next 5 years. Non-LTS releases are only supported for 9 months.</p>
<h2 id="ftoc-tuy-chon-luu-tru-moi-trong-qua-trinh-cai-dat" class="ftwp-heading">New storage options during installation</h2>
<p>Even during the installation process, you will notice a new difference in no time.  There is a graphical bar showing the percentage of the installation.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="485" height="253" class="aligncenter wp-image-19380 size-full" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/72-2.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot;" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/72-2.png 485w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/72-2-300x156.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 25"/></p>
<p>In the &#8220;Installation Type&#8221; section, there will be an &#8220;Advanced Features&#8221; option.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="485" height="252" class="aligncenter wp-image-19381 size-full" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/73.png" alt="Installation Type" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/73.png 485w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/73-300x156.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 26"/></p>
<p>Clicking the “Advanced Features” button will bring up a window that gives you two options. The first is to use Logical Volume Management (LVM). LVM allows you to combine physical drives into a single volume.</p>
<p>The second option is to use the ZFS file system. ZFS is a data management system that combines large capacity management and high flexibility. It is slowly improving over time to compete directly with ext4. Previously, these options were in the “Installation Type” window. I think putting them in another window is a reasonable decision.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="278" height="165" class="aligncenter wp-image-19382 size-full" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/74.png" alt="Advanced Features" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 27"/></p>
<h2 id="ftoc-gnome-3-36-theme-moi-va-dark-mode" class="ftwp-heading">GNOME 3.36, New Theme, and Dark Mode</h2>
<p>Every Ubuntu release comes with a few graphical and visual changes, including a newer version of Gnome.</p>
<p>The default wallpaper in this version is Focal Fossa.<img post-id="6643" fifu-featured="1" decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="485" height="452" class="aligncenter wp-image-19383 size-full" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/75.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &#8220;Focal Fossa&#8221; &#8211; Final version officially released" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &#8220;Focal Fossa&#8221; &#8211; Final version officially released" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/75.png 485w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/75-300x280.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 28"/></p>
<p>Ubuntu also provides users with a lot of impressive wallpapers to choose from if you are bored with old wallpapers.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="410" height="440" class="aligncenter wp-image-19384 size-full" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/76.png" alt="many impressive wallpapers" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/76.png 410w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/76-280x300.png 280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 29"/></p>
<p>Purple is chosen as the main color in this version. When you select an item, it will be colored orange as shown below, but purple is still the dominant color. The color of the checkbox and the switch is purple. Other interactive interface elements have also been changed to purple, such as sliders.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="404" height="126" class="aligncenter wp-image-19385 size-full" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/77.png" alt="download ubuntu 20.04 lts" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/77.png 404w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/77-300x94.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 30"/></p>
<p>Yaru is selected as the default theme. It was first introduced in <a target="_blank" href="https://en.anonyviet.com/next-link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.howtogeek.com%2Ffyi%2Fubuntu-18.10-is-out-with-a-new-theme-and-snappier-desktop-performance%2F" rel="noopener external nofollow" class="ext-link" onclick="this.target='_blank';">Ubuntu 18.10</a>. Therefore, this topic will be quite new for those upgrading from Ubuntu 18.04 LTS version.</p>
<p>The folder icons are also purple and fade to orange.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="481" height="326" class="size-full wp-image-19386 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/78.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 14" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/78.png 481w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/78-300x203.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 31"/></p>
<p>The new “Appearance” option in “Settings” allows you to switch from the default theme to a light or dark theme. The light theme uses the gray window title bar, and the dark theme changes the color of menus, main control areas, windows, and applications to black.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="440" height="155" class="size-full wp-image-19387 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/79.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 15" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/79.png 440w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/79-300x106.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 32"/></p>
<h2 id="ftoc-man-hinh-khoa-va-man-hinh-dang-nhap" class="ftwp-heading">Lock screen and login screen</h2>
<p>The lock screen and login screen have been upgraded in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. The wallpaper you use will be opened in the Lock Screen.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="284" height="272" class="size-full wp-image-19388 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/80.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 16" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 33"/></p>
<p>The password input box now has an &#8220;eye&#8221; icon. Click it to display your password. If your password is too complicated, you can use this feature to view the password, or you can also change it to make it easier to remember. A small but extremely subtle feature.</p>
<p>You can choose to enable or disable notifications for the lock screen, from within “Settings”.  You can do this in 2 ways.  The first way is in “Notifications”.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="425" height="325" class="size-full wp-image-19389 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/81.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 17" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/81.png 425w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/81-300x229.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 34"/></p>
<p>The second way is in “Lock Screen”.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="415" height="262" class="size-full wp-image-19390 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/82.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 18" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/82.png 415w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/82-300x189.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 35"/></p>
<h2 id="ftoc-che-do-khong-lam-phien" class="ftwp-heading">Do Not Disturb Mode</h2>
<p>The do not disturb mode setting will prevent notifications from being displayed.  If you want to see them, you have to click on the clock icon on the screen.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="476" height="322" class="size-full wp-image-19391 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/83.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 19" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/83.png 476w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/83-300x203.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 476px) 100vw, 476px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 36"/></p>
<h2 id="ftoc-them-ty-le-hien-thi" class="ftwp-heading">More impression ratio</h2>
<p>Another welcome addition to the Settings app is the scaling feature. This feature was present in Ubuntu 19.10 version but has been hidden and is not considered an official feature. And now, this feature is also ready to roll out to users.</p>
<p>If you are setting the screen display ratio to 100% make the folders, or icons too small to see.  And 200% is too big, this setting will make using Ubuntu much more comfortable.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="566" height="222" class="size-full wp-image-19393 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/84.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 20" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/84.png 566w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/84-300x118.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 37"/></p>
<p>Enabling the “Fractional Scaling” option will refresh the “Scale” option in Settings.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="566" height="222" class="size-full wp-image-19392 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/85.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 21" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/85.png 566w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/85-300x118.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 38"/></p>
<p>New options appear depending on the screen resolution. For example, you may see different options on a laptop than on a desktop.</p>
<p>The System Menu on the control panel has been cleaned up. Now, it has a new option called “Suspend”, and “Settings”, “Lock”, “Power” have been moved to a separate menu.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="229" height="248" class="size-full wp-image-19394 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/86.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 22" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 39"/></p>
<h2 id="ftoc-cai-dat-ung-dung-tu-snaps" class="ftwp-heading">Install apps from Snaps</h2>
<p>The biggest application-related change in Ubuntu 20.04 is the Software software.  In addition to some software, this application can also install software from the Snap Store.  You can still use apt-get or apt to install other software from the terminal.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="480" height="554" class="size-full wp-image-19395 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/87.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 23" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/87.png 480w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/87-260x300.png 260w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 40"/></p>
<p>The interface has been updated, allowing you to select channels to install the application.  You can choose “Stable”, “Candidate”, “Beta” or “Edge”.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="482" height="146" class="size-full wp-image-19396 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/88.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 24" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/88.png 482w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/88-300x91.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 41"/></p>
<p>Here are some of the big-name apps included in this update:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Thunderbird 68.6.0: </strong>Thunderbird was expected to have the Lightning calender extension in this release, but in the last Focal Fossa Beta, Lightning did not appear.</li>
<li><strong>LibreOffice 6.4.2.2</strong></li>
<li><strong>Firefox 75.0</strong></li>
<li><strong>Files 3.36.1.1 – stable</strong></li>
<li><strong>gcc 9.3.0</strong></li>
<li><strong>OpenSSL 1.1.1d</strong></li>
</ul>
<p>A brand new addition is the GNOME extension control application. Previously, you had to do this through the browser. Extension installation remains the same, via the GNOME extensions website, but managing these extensions is now possible in the native application.<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="413" height="416" class="size-full wp-image-19397 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/89.png" alt="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 25" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/89.png 413w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/89-298x300.png 298w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/89-150x150.png 150w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/89-75x75.png 75w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 413px) 100vw, 413px" title="Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS &quot;Focal Fossa&quot; - Final version officially released 42"/></p>
<h2 id="ftoc-nang-cap-nhan-linux-phien-ban-5-2-0-21" class="ftwp-heading">Linux kernel upgrade (version 5.2.0-21)</h2>
<p>Fossa has upgraded the Linux kernel to version 5.4.0-21. This is the first kernel to include the long-awaited lock screen feature, the Linux Security Module. This feature is disabled by default for fear it might break systems. Still, it&#8217;s an interesting feature and worth a look.</p>
<p>There are two locking modes. Confidential mode prevents software from extracting confidential information from the kernel. Intergrity mode, which allows the kernel to disable features that allow the user to modify options running in the kernel. Both of these modes even prevent processes from being launched by the root user or anyone with sudo privileges.</p>
<p>There are improvements in the system&#8217;s cryptographic key generation, fscrypt storage, encryption API, and usage routines in ext4 and some other file systems.</p>
<p>Support for ARM processors, has been expanded and now includes support for the Snapdragon 835 on Chip (SoC), used in some Asus, Hp, and Lenovo laptop lines. Other processors currently supported include Intel Ice Lake Thunderbolt and AMD CPUs, Accelerated Processing Units (APUs).</p>
<p>List of supported hardware devices:</p>
<ul>
<li>Wacom MobileStudio pro 13</li>
<li>Receivers by Logitech Lightspeed</li>
<li>Smart touch screens</li>
</ul>
<p>VPN support with WireGuard protocol has been added to the kernel. On the Focal Fossa beta, the wireguard binaries are not pre-installed, although you can still install it. If it is not available in this version, then installing it is also very simple.</p>
<pre><code><span style="font-size: 14pt;">sudo apt-get install wireguard&#13;
&#13;
</span></code></pre>
<pre><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><code>sudo apt-get install wireguard-tools&#13;
</code></span></pre>
<h2 id="ftoc-download-ubuntu-20-04-phien-ban-chinh-thuc" class="ftwp-heading">Download Ubuntu 20.04 official version</h2>
<p><strong>To Download Ubuntu 20.04 you can access the page <a target="_blank" href="https://en.anonyviet.com/next-link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Freleases.ubuntu.com%2F20.04%2F" rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" class="ext-link" onclick="this.target='_blank';">https://releases.ubuntu.com/20.04/</a> to download.</strong></p>
<p><strong>And if you want to upgrade from version 18.04 or 19.10 to version 20.04 LTS, please visit <a target="_blank" href="https://en.anonyviet.com/next-link?url=https%3A%2F%2Fanonyviet.com%2Fcach-nang-cap-ubuntu-18-04-hoac-19-10-len-ubuntu-20-04-lts%2F" rel="noopener" class="local-link">here</a>.</strong></p>
<p>The effects seem smoother and I don&#8217;t feel any lag at all. The theme this time is Yaru which is really beautiful and easy to use. With the addition of the new screen scaling feature, you will have a great desktop with different screen types.</p>
<p>The switch to Snaps to install software can be controversial but, as always, you have a choice. If you have some problems with Snaps, just use the terminal to manage the software. At least the Amazon app is gone.</p>
<p>Should I upgrade? Users who are already using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS “Bionic Beaver” will cautiously wait a while. Version 18.04 will receive maintenance updates until 2023, so there&#8217;s no rush. Once this version is stable, nothing will stop 18.04 users from migrating to 20.04.</p>
<p>Regular users can upgrade to this new version with perks such as faster boot times, modern software, better visual experience and hardware patches, security and in-house maintenance. next 5 years or until you use interim releases.</p>

<p>Containers contain everything an application, tool or service needs to run, including all libraries, dependencies, and configuration files. Containers are also isolated from each other (and the real machine), but can communicate through predefined channels.</p>
<p>Since Docker is open source software, not only is it free to use, but you can also tweak, extend, hack, or build new features. In this article, I will guide you to install Docker on <a target="_blank" href="https://en.anonyviet.com/next-link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fubuntu.com%2Fdownload%2Fdesktop" rel="noopener external nofollow" class="ext-link" onclick="this.target='_blank';">Ubuntu 20.04 LTS</a> (Focal Fossa), the same steps may also work on older versions of Ubuntu, including Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.</p>
<p><img post-id="3156" fifu-featured="1" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-24581 size-full" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/139.jpg" alt="How to Install Docker on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS" title="How to Install Docker on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS" width="900" height="516" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/139.jpg 900w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/139-300x172.jpg 300w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/139-768x440.jpg 768w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/139-750x430.jpg 750w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" title="How to Install Docker on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 9"/></p>
<p>More specifically, you&#8217;ll learn how to install Docker from the regular Ubuntu repositories, how to let Docker start automatically when you log into your system, and how to install Docker images and run them.</p>
<p>But this is not a deep dive. This article only helps you quickly install Docker to start learning.</p>
<h2>Install Docker from Ubuntu Repository</h2>
<p>To install Docker on Ubuntu, you need to meet the following 2 requirements:</p>
<ul>
<li>You must have access to <strong>sudo</strong></li>
<li>You must have an internet connection</li>
</ul>
<p>If you&#8217;re managing or setting up an Ubuntu server, you&#8217;ve (probably) met both of these requirements, but check them out before you start.</p>
<p><strong>Step 1:</strong> Install docker from Ubuntu&#8217;s repositories. The repository I use here is <strong>apt</strong> and the installation package name is <strong>docker.io</strong>:</p>
<pre class="wp-block-preformatted"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">sudo apt install docker.io - y&#13;
</span></pre>
<p>Ubuntu will download the latest Docker version from the apt repository, then extract and install it on your system.</p>
<p><strong>Step 2:</strong> Allow Docker to start automatically when you log on to the system:</p>
<div>
<pre class="wp-block-preformatted"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">sudo systemctl enable --now docker</span></pre>
<p><strong>Step 3:</strong> Docker test</p>
<p>Now that Docker is installed and running on your system, you should verify that everything is working properly. What you need to do is run a new image named <strong>hello world</strong>:</p>
<pre class="wp-block-preformatted"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">sudo docker run hello-world</span></pre>
<p>When you run this command, you will see a long message saying “installation appears to be working correctly”.</p>
<p>Like this:<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-24582 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/140.jpeg" alt="How to Install Docker on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 5" width="563" height="355" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/140.jpeg 563w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/140-300x189.jpeg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 563px) 100vw, 563px" title="How to Install Docker on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 10"/></p>
<p>Notice the first line, you will see the words Docker “cannot find” image “hello-world”. But instead of exiting, it searched and downloaded from Docker Hub.</p>
<p>So we have…</p>
<p><strong>Step 4:</strong> Find and install Docker images.</p>
<p>You are now setting up the world or rather the Docker ecosystem, and Docker Hub is your home. Docker Hub is billed as &#8220;the world&#8217;s largest library and community of container images&#8221;. Any images available on Docker Hub can also be installed on your system.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s see if the ad is correct.</p>
<p>To search for images on Docker Hub, simply use the command <strong>search</strong> in docker:</p>
<pre class="wp-block-preformatted"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">sudo docker search term-goes-here</span></pre>
<p>For example, I want to search for Alpine Linux on Docker Hub, so I run the command <code>docker search alpine.</code> A list of matching images (matching the term <strong>alpine</strong>) will appear. The official alpine image will have the text <strong>OK </strong>on column &#8220;<strong>OFFICIAL</strong>“.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-24583 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/141.jpg" alt="How to Install Docker on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 6" width="563" height="355" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/141.jpg 563w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/141-300x189.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 563px) 100vw, 563px" title="How to Install Docker on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 11"/></p>
<p>Once you find the image you want to use, you can download it using the command <strong>pull</strong>For example, to install Alpine Linux, I run the command: <code>sudo docker pull alpine</code></p>
<p>To run a downloaded image, simply run this command and include the image name: <code>sudo docker run alpine</code></p>
<p>If you want to run an image as a container and get shell access immediately, add the -it flag. Example: I run <code>sudo docker run -it alpine</code> and Docker throws itself straight into the Alpine container:</p>
<p><img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-24584 aligncenter" src="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/142.jpg" alt="How to Install Docker on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 7" width="563" height="355" srcset="https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/142.jpg 563w, https://anonyviet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/142-300x189.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 563px) 100vw, 563px" title="How to Install Docker on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 12"/></p>
<p>To exit, simply type <code>exit</code> and press enter:</p>
<p>Some useful commands you need to know:</p>
<ul>
<li><code>docker ps -a</code>: List all the images you have used (and see their container IDs/names)</li>
<li><code>docker stop {container id}</code>: To close the image</li>
<li><code>docker rm ID/name-container:</code>  To delete containers</li>
</ul>
