Over the past two years, database hacks to get user information have become increasingly common. The most recent is the data sharing case of Mobile World and FPT. Recently, a huge email password leak has just appeared called “Collection #1”. With the largest scale ever, about 772,904,991 emails and 21,222,975 passwords have been shared publicly on Hacker forums.

Thankfully, security researcher Troy Hunt, owner of the Email Have I Been Pwned Password Security Checkup Website, has discovered 12,000 separate data and 87Gb of data uploaded to the MegaUpload service. Then this data was added by a famous hacker forum with more than 2000 previously leaked databases to form a huge volume of Email and Password data. More dangerous, is that the password has been translated back into plaintext (unencrypted), and anyone can see it.

How to check if Email has been hacked Password?

Check if Email is in Hacked list

Previously, AnonyViet showed you how to Check if your account has been hacked? This is the website of Vietnam. If you are curious to know if your email is among the latest hacked accounts, you can use Genuine tool of Have I Been Pwned.

Enter Email enter the search box.

If the message appears:

Oh no — pwned!
Pwned on xx breached sites and found no pastes (subscribe to search sensitive)

Then xx is the number of Websites containing your Email information. You need to change your Email Password immediately to avoid losing your account.

If the message appears:

Good news — no pwnage found!
No breached accounts and no pastes (subscribe to search sensitive)

Well congrats, your email or account is safe!

Check if your password is in the leaked list

Currently Have I Been Pwned has in hand a list of accounts whose passwords have been exposed. You can check if your password has been hacked or not, by comparing it with the available data of Have I Been Pwned. You need to access the link Check Password.

If the message appears:

Oh no — pwned!
This password has been seen xxx times before
This password has previously appeared in a data breach and should never be used. If you’ve ever used it anywhere before, change it!

In there xxx is the number of times your Password appears in the hacked database. If you are using this Password, you need to change it for all accounts in use.

If the message appears:

Good news — no pwnage found!
This password wasn’t found in any of the Pwned Passwords loaded into Have I Been Pwned. That doesn’t definitely mean it’s a good password, merely that it’s not indexed on this site. If you’re not already using a password manager, go and download 1Password and change all your passwords to be strong and unique.

Congratulations, your password has never appeared in the hacked data. You don’t need to worry about the account.

How to set a strong password to not be hacked

If you are worried that this Website stores your Email or Password, you should proceed to change the Password for all existing accounts. Standard Strong Password will include: uppercase, lowercase, special characters, and numbers … should have 8 characters or more.

And avoid placing Easy-to-guess password to avoid detection by friends or family.

There are many services that allow you to track sent emails such as: whether the recipient has read the email, what links were clicked, what device was used and even the recipient’s current location. Of course all this without the consent of the recipient.

So, to solve this problem, I will guide you through the tricks to recognize and disable when being tracked by Email. If you are suspecting you are being monitored by Email, here are a few ways you can tell if your emails are being tracked and how to disable the feature for your emails.

How email tracking works

First we will find out most commonly used email tracking method. Typically, there are two ways to track emails. The sender will attach a invisible trackable image called pixel-beacon or you will receive a link to click to view the email content.

In the first method, Invisible image (pixel-beacon) can connect to Server to record tracking information so that the sender knows if the email has been opened and read by the recipient.

For the second method, the sender will ask you to click on the link to read the content and hide below the code to get your information.

Detecting Manual Email Tracking

There are many ways to detect you are being tracked by email, here are solutions to the most common tracking methods:

Method 1: Attach an image from an external link

All popular email services like Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo don’t show external images by default. Your email provider will automatically ask whether or not the external image is to be opened, in the event of a traceable image. You can decline this request to disable tracking for that email .

Of course, there’s a chance that the email might contain an image that’s important to your company like a contract or quote. However, you will have to guess yourself See if the email contains an image with a tracking code or an actual image related to your work.

Method 2: Don’t click on the affiliate link

Security experts always recommend never opening strange links, and this is especially true for links to view email content. If email that says “click on link to view content” or something like that, then just click that sender will know you have read the message through the code hidden below.

Method 3: Find a third-party email address

Use Extension to automatically detect tracked emails

Extension Ugly Email will automatically detect in the sender’s email whether the Email Tracking Code is attached and will give an alert to the user.

You are free to open emails if you have a tracking code attached because Ugly Email will automatically block existing tracking codes. You will see a message when the tracking code is disabled. In my experience, it is capable of blocking many types of tracking methods. Even if all the above manual methods fail to find the tracking code Ugly Email can still be found and disabled.

Defect of the Ugly Email is only supported for Gmail, if you use another mail service, check it manually.

Check Gmail account size on Google

This is a problem that many Gmail users often face that is the memory limit and once you reach this limit, you will not be able to receive emails anymore. You can easily check your account capacity by opening Google Drive. Your storage space (15 GB by default for free users) will show up on the right side of your screen. If your memory is full, you should delete junk document files.

Gmail doesn’t automatically delete your emails when you throw them in the trash. Google keeps this email for 30 days before deleting it itself. However, these emails still take up space when in the trash, so it is necessary in the meantime to delete them from the trash.

Check your Gmail filter settings

Filtering your email regularly is a necessity, especially if you start receiving random spam emails from advertisers. Chances are the email you expect to receive has also been filtered for this reason.

On your PC:

1. Open your Gmail account and click the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen to go to Settings.
2. Click “See all settings”.
3. Select “Filters and Blocked Addresses”.
4. Look through the email addresses you’ve blocked or filtered. Unblock or unfilter the email addresses you want to receive emails from.

If you’ve unblocked or unfiltered any email addresses, you should ask Gmail to resend their emails to you. Your Gmail account should now receive emails without issue.

Turn off email forwarding in Gmail

Email forwarding is a useful feature for users who are switching to a new email address. This feature will move all emails sent to your old gmail address to your new gmail address. If this feature is enabled, you will not receive any new emails.

Open your Gmail account and click the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen to go to Settings.

1. Click “See all settings”.
2. Select “Forwarding and POP/IMAP”
3. Turn off forwarding and save your changes before refreshing the (F5) Gmail page.

Turn off your anti-virus program

This step only applies to people who are using IMAP on Windows.

Some antivirus programs have email filtering features. This feature filters out emails that your antivirus considers to have potential viruses or malicious intent. You should disable this feature from your anti-virus program and refresh Gmail or ask the sender to resend the email.

You can also disable the antivirus program on Startup through the Task Manager.

1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
2. Go to “Startups” and search for your anti-virus software.
3. Right-click your antivirus program and select “Disable” to disable it on startup.

After completing the above steps then you should restart your computer and see if that fixes the problem. Ask the sender to resend the email. If the problem is fixed, then don’t forget to turn on your anti-virus software when done! You can have it run again on startup by repeating the steps above but clicking “Enable” instead.

Check out the Google admin console

This step is for users with business email or GSuite subscriptions. If your email doesn’t end with “@gmail.com”, you can try this.

Ask any of your admins to access the page admin.google.com and find your email address. They can track all emails sent or uploaded on Google’s servers, even if the email doesn’t reach your account. If the email is not found on Google’s servers, the problem is with the sender.

Google Support

Gmail will start deleting and moving your email to the Trash folder. To delete your emails completely, you will have to clean up the Trash. To do so, in the left menu of Gmail, click on the “Trash” folder.

Enter filter condition

Fill in the fields to identify the email you want to forward. Here are some examples to help you better understand how to do this.

Maybe this Gmail account is for work, but you often receive personal emails. You can enter email addresses for friends and family members in the From field. Then forward the messages to your personal account.

If you are planning an event and want to forward all emails related to that event to another email address. Type the words you want into Has the Words or Doesn’t Have if they appear in the body of the email. You can also use the Subject field if you want.

When you have entered all the conditions you want, click “Create Filter”.

Choose action for filter

Next, you’ll choose actions for the email based on the conditions you just entered. Tick ​​“Forward It To” and select a forwarding email address.

You can also select more actions if you want. For example, mark an email as read or delete it. Once you’ve made your selection, select “Create Filter”.

Note: After you create a filter, it will only forward new emails sent to your Gmail inbox. If you want the emails you’ve received forwarded, you’ll have to do it yourself.

Edit filters or stop email forwarding

You can edit or delete a filter you create in Gmail at any time. Click the gear icon to enter Settings, then tap “See All Settings”. Select the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab to see a list of your current filters.

To change, tap “Edit” to the right of the filter. After adjusting, select “Update Filter”.

To stop using and remove a filter, click “Delete” to the right of the filter. Then confirm by pressing “OK”.
