The basis of the birth of Vietnam Disaster Prevention application

The rainy season is a big challenge for Vietnamese people, especially those living in coastal, river and mountainous areas. According to statistics of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, in 2022, Vietnam has faced 16 storms and tropical depressions, causing a series of human and property losses.

In order to help people feel more secure when equipped with emergency assistance tools before natural disasters, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced release Zalo mini app “Vietnam Disaster Prevention” on Zalo platform.

This is a small application integrated on Zalo, allowing users to access information and services related to disaster prevention quickly and conveniently.

About Vietnam Disaster Prevention application

Zalo mini app “Vietnam natural disaster prevention” is one of the products of the project “Strengthening the ability to respond to natural disasters of children and families” by the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control. UNICEF has been implementing it since 2019.

The project aims to reduce disaster risks for children and families through capacity building for authorities, communities and individuals.

Zalo mini app “Vietnam Disaster Prevention” was launched on June 22, 2021 in Hanoi. This is the first mini app in Vietnam built on the Zalo platform, the most popular communication application today with more than 60 million users.

With this mini app, people can access information and services related to disaster prevention with just one click on the Zalo icon.

The “Vietnam Disaster Prevention” App has five main features, including: connection of relief, emergency communication, disaster reporting, disaster research and disaster information. These features are designed to suit the needs and realities of Vietnamese people during the rainy and stormy season.

This is the most important feature of the mini app, helping people receive timely response in emergency situations. This feature allows people to update contact information, share location with description and photos to receive timely support from the authorities.

This information will be sent to the local Disaster Prevention and Control Center and related units. Residents can also monitor the status of their rescue request and receive a response from the authorities.

Emergency contact

This is a feature that helps people to immediately contact local authorities in emergency situations.

Mini app displays a list of phone numbers and hotlines of functional agencies such as the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Transport, … and the Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control of the provinces. People just need to tap on a phone number or hotline to make a phone call or send a message.

Mini app provides consistent, scientific and easy-to-understand information and images about natural disasters such as storms, floods, landslides, droughts, heat, hoarfrost, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes .

People can learn about the causes, signs, ways to avoid and respond to these types of disasters. In addition, the mini app also arranges information buttons for ethnic minorities such as Dao, Mong, Thai, and Khmer to assist them in accessing information conveniently.

This is a feature to help people quickly update the weather situation, emergency warnings in the localities. Mini app provides information taken from Zalo OA page “National Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention”, an official and reputable information channel on natural disaster prevention in Vietnam.

Citizens can view news, videos and photos about the national disaster situation, the response measures of the government and the community. Residents can also track weather maps, UV index, AQI index and detailed weather forecasts for each area.
